Aquatic Physiotherapy

Aquatic Physiotherapy (also known as Hydrotherapy) is physiotherapy undertaken in warm water. Practising physiotherapy in this way helps relieve aches and pains, mobilise stiff joints and strengthen weak muscles.

The water in the pool is kept at approximately 34oC allowing your muscles to relax whilst easing the pain in your joints. The buoyancy of the water unloads the weight of the body, reducing stress on joints and allowing greater freedom of movement.

This form of physiotherapy offers many benefits and provides a general sense of well-being for clients with a variety of conditions.

Aquatic Physiotherapy is carried out by specially trained Chartered Physiotherapists who will be with you in the water at all times.

WARMTH

The warm water relaxes muscles, assists in improving your range of movement and provides a more comfortable environment.

BUOYANCY

Buoyancy provides support for the body. Depending on a client’s requirements the water can be used to assist or resist specific movements, which are used to strengthen muscles.

WEIGHTLESSNESS

Pain relief is possible due to reduced weight bearing through the joints, offering a great environment to work on the quality of movement, balance or walking.

“I have been attending weekly 45 minute hydro sessions with Aqua Rehab for last 18 months. During that time I have made significant progress with my rehab following a C4 incomplete spinal injury.
With Aqua’s input I am now able to stand, walk short distances and have a good balance. The weekly sessions have increased my flexibility and mobility. I am always challenged to develop further and improve my stamina and endurance. They constantly introduce new techniques and methods to aid my recovery. I cannot speak more highly of their dedication and professionalism.”
